“This morning at 9:05am we’ll conclude our study of Jesus’ parables with the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats. In my experience, this is perhaps the most misunderstood and misused parable. Often it is read as if it were “Jesus’ instructions for gaining eternal life by acts of kindness and compassion,” as if the point of the parable were to teach you how to turn yourself into a sheep. If that were so, the parable would stand in violent contradiction with the rest of the New Testament. But even setting aside the rest of the New Testament, as we’ll see, such a reading cannot be justified in the text itself. So what does it mean and why does Jesus tell it? We’ll answer those questions this morning.” – Matt
