This Thursday evening, we continued our study of the book of Ecclesiastes. We picked up in chapter 3. You can read Ecclesiastes 3 here.
In the 60’s a band called The Byrds took Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 and turned it into a hugely popular folk/rock song. But if people knew what Solomon meant by the poem, I’m not so sure it would be a hit. The Byrds’ point, as the Vietnam War was raging, was that there “is a time for peace” and that this is the time. Solomon’s point was that though we might wish we could determine the times and seasons…these belong to God and are out of our hands. We cannot conform reality to our desires but must rather learn to accept that to everything there is a season.
