Matt recently gave a talk at entitled, “Beauty and Natural Theology in The Lord of the Rings.” Matt argued that the Lord of the Rings, in addition to being a wonderful story, also serves as a narrative argument for the reality of beauty. Tolkien was a classical thinker who believed that Beauty is not merely subjective, defined by “the eye of the beholder,” but it, like goodness and truth, is an absolute or transcendent reality that finds its source and measure in God.
