New Members Class Session Tomorrow evening (October 5), Matt will be holding Session 3 of the New Members classes by Zoom at 4:30pm. There will not be a physical meeting. Each class lasts roughly an hour.
These classes are designed to introduce people to the structure of Good Shepherd, to talk through what we believe, and what it means to be a member of Good Shepherd. If you would like more information, or to sign up for the class, please send an email to the office and we will add you to the mailing list.
The Jeremy Orton Chili Cookoff As many of you know, earlier this year Jeremy Orton passed away. Jeremy loved the Chili Cookoff, and even took home a win last year. This year, we have decided to hold the cookoff in memory of Jeremy.
Please stay after the 10:30 service today to enjoy some chili and cornbread. If you have the ability, please bring a dish to pass, but stay and have lunch even if you don’t.
If you would like to enter your chili and/or cornbread into the competition, please make sure it is labeled with your name and the name of your dish, and in the kitchen prior to the 10:30 service.
Allhallowtide This year we are going to be holding a service in preparation for Allhallowtide on Tuesday, October 28th at 6:30pm, in place of our usual Trunk-or-Treat event. It will be a somber candlelit service in remembrance of those we have lost personally, collectively, and the saints who have gone before us.
Allhallowtide encompasses the observance of All Hallow’s Eve, All Saint’s Day, and All Soul’s Day. These days are set apart in the midst of Ordinary Time to reflect on our mortality and the end of life here on earth, and how Christ has conquered death to bring us life everlasting. We mourn those we have lost, while we praise God for their time here on earth, and look forward to the day we will see them again.
We will be including a Necrology, honoring and reading out the names of those we have lost as a community. If there is anyone dear to you you’d like to be included in this reading, please contact Angel Groves in person or by text/phone at 570.561.9074. Please include the name of the deceased as well as their connection to you or our church. (Ex. John Smith, cousin of Jonathan Groves).
Sunday Lunch Each Sunday after the 10:30 service, there will be lunch served in the parish hall. Everyone is welcome to go down after the service and enjoy a light lunch before heading home.
Upcoming Episcopal Visit Bishop Dobbs will be visiting Good Shepherd on October 26th. Preceding that, Matt will be running a Christian Ed series on the 39 Articles, the Anglican articles of faith. If you would like to be confirmed in the Anglican tradition and formally become a member of the Anglican Church of North America, you must complete these classes. Bishop Dobbs will perform the confirmations during his visit. If you would like to be confirmed, please talk with Matt or Jon.
Potluck Schedule The first Sunday of most months is a potluck or cooking competition. Bring a dish to pass, or just come and have lunch after the 10:30! You’ll notice below that some of the months have a theme assigned to the meal. This doesn’t mean you can only bring a dish that includes those items or fits into those categories. It’s just an added element of fun if you’re up for it.
If you’re a person that enjoys competition, or judging other people (heh), please see Steph or Claudia to sign up as a judge for cooking competitions.

The Cranmer Fellows Podcast (CFP) explores pastoral ministry and theology from an Anglican perspective. CFP is a project that Jon and Matt have undertaken in order to 1) encapsulate the pastoral training Matt has given men over the years into an accessible resource and 2) serve as a door to, we pray, a future program to train more people for ministry. Though geared toward the pastor, ministry leader, and pastor-in-training, what Jon and Matt talk about is applicable to all Christians.
