Good Shepherd Update Thursday June 10th, 2010
Dear Good Shepherd,
We are in the middle of packing for our trip to Provincial Synod today. We’re coming back tomorrow so it’s not a huge trip. But it does mean I don’t have as much time for the Update as I would normally like. So, here it is in brief:
1. There will be Thursday Night Bible Study tonight (6:30pm)...Ife will be filling in for me.
2. There will be Men’s Bible Study tomorrow morning at 6:30am. Darrell Dean is cooking and Chris Vail will be leading the discussion of 2nd Samuel 23
3. All the other bible studies are running along as usual.
4. Team Captains: There will be a meeting after the 10:30 service on Sunday for all Worship Team captains. Please be there so we can iron out some of the confusion about the teams etc…
5. News Updates Keep watching the website homepage..I plan to upload photos from the Festival this weekend and I’ll be sending news when I can from the Synod.
6. Sunday school: I’ve noticed a big slip in the number of kids in Sunday school as we close in on the summer. It’s wonderful and (of course) your responsibility given by God to teach your children about Jesus and lead them through scripture at home. But it is also vital for them to learn at a young age that the local body of believers is a necessary part of their growth in Christ. Neglecting Sunday school and sends a signal that the teaching of the church is unimportant when compared to private study when, in scripture, the emphasis is just the opposite. So I’m praying and I am confident that everyone, members especially, will redouble their efforts to be at church on Sunday morning in time for Sunday school at 9:15am.
7. Be sure to read the Archbishop’s Synod address here.
8. Here is the text of Anne’s sermon from Sunday on the Holy Spirit and the Word
9. Work: A number of Good Shepherd parishioners are looking for some basic work. If you know of any openings in your workplace, please let me know by email. Thanks
10. Christian Ed this Sunday we’ll discuss Articles 2 and 3 of the 39 Articles. You can read all of them here...looking forward to more good discussion.
See you all soon.
In Christ
Matt
