Good Shepherd Update: Thursday, April 22, 2010
From Ife:
Dear Good Shepherd,
Good morning. Here is the update for this week:
Men’s Bible Study and Breakfast, tomorrow morning at 6:30. All men are invited.
Thursday Night Bible Study: If you are a new Christian or just have questions about the Bible, this is a great Bible study for you. All are welcome. This is a great Bible study to invite your friends to.
Women’s Bible Study will be meeting at its usual time on Saturday morning.
Systematic Theology is on hiatus while Matt is on vacation.
Tuesday morning and evening Bible studies will be held at their usual times:
Morning Bible Study at 9am – led by Chris Vail
Evening Bible Study at 6:30pm – led by Ife
This Sunday, April 25th, Father Bill Day will be leading worship. Some of you might know him from previous times he has stepped in while Matt was on vacation.
Technically, this Sunday is also Good Shepherd Sunday, but it will be postponed until May 9th. By that time, the Kennedys will be back from vacation. We will be celebrating as a parish on May 9th. Our attendance last Sunday was great - let’s keep it up.
Team Corinthians will serve this week during the 10:30 service.
The Ham and Scalloped-Potato Dinner (A Note from Carmen): Thanks to all who helped with the ham and scalloped-potato dinner, which was a great success!! We served more than 175 people and heard many compliments on the delicious food and friendly service. More than 55 dinners were gifted to very grateful guests and it was an evening of fellowship and fun. We made approximately $650.
An icon of the Good Shepherd will be given to St. John and St. Andrew’s at the 4:30 mass on Saturday. Flowers will also be on the altar as a thank-you.
Youth Group Update:
Senior High – Sunday 6 – 8pm
Junior High – Monday 6:30 – 8pm
Office Hours and Availability: I will be in the church office between 2-4pm, Tuesday through Friday. And please call the church if you have any questions or concerns. The church number is 723-8032.
Good News for the Week:
I Corinthians 15:50-58 (ESV):
I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written:
“Death is swallowed up in victory.”
“O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?”
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
Remember to invite friends and family to church!
